As you may have guessed, my name’s Phil Reynolds. I’m based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK and am a freelance provider of a range of services loosely connected by the umbrella term ‘media’. A partial list of my skills would include:
Typesetting/graphic design – Since 2004, I’ve worked extensively as a freelance in the graphic design industry, setting everything from newspaper ads to colour magazines. I’m extremely comfortable with QuarkXPress 6 and Photoshop – less so with Illustrator but I’m learning fast.
Proofreading – A client with 25 years’ experience in the printing industry describes me as ‘without doubt, the most anal proofreader I’ve ever met.’ Believe it or not, it’s meant as a compliment! Good proofreading is about so much more than just spotting spelling mistakes; it requires a broad general knowledge of a range of subjects, a sharp eye for consistency of style and the unlearnable knack of being able to focus in on mistakes as if they were somehow highlighted with an invisible magic marker.
Writing – My personal site is, among other things, a forum for some of my writing, but I’ve also written newspaper articles for money and in 2005 I was commissioned to write a short play for Heartbreak Productions
Voice art – In the past couple of years I’ve done voice recordings for radio commercials, ‘on hold’ systems, computer games, educational videos, even a theme park ride! A three-minute mp3 showreel (size: 3Mb) is available for download here.
Last year I recorded some M R James short stories for a series of audiobooks produced by Fantom Films – these have been very well received by the Jamesian News website.
My latest job for Fantom is an audiobook recording of Kevin Turton’s book Warwickshire Murders, released in February 2008, which you can order online from Fantom Films.
Acting – Besides my amateur stage work (which you can read about in ridiculously unnecessary detail on my personal site), I’ve been involved in a number of independent film and video projects, some of which even involved money changing hands. Recent screen appearances include Explode, a three-part SF thriller for Fantom Films, and So What?, a sitcom pilot for Brainstopping Productions.
Web design – Besides maintaining this site, my personal site and the website of Leamington’s Loft Theatre, I’ve also designed small but beautiful sites for Eden Place, a mental health nursing home, and vocal harmony group Take Five among others.
If you want to hire me to do any of the jobs mentioned above, or perhaps others I haven’t listed (anything considered so long as it doesn’t involve breaking the law or touching anything yucky), please get in touch.
